Original Creation

Deserted African sunset bay

Voy Kay 17 Apr 2020

16th African painting and if I want to believe my family ... my best one so far. I thought over the idea of creating this in the morning and at noon, I had my oils and brushes already at work. This was a very smooth creation since I kept on getting inspired and never failed with loosing focus on colours and placement. In fact, I even think these are about the best highlighted trees I have done so far in this series! So YES, a VERY productive, rewarding AND fun afternoon!
Painting was a 16"x20" budget quality, prepared with yellow acryls and liquid clear. Thoughest was to get the sky in place on top and to get me sipping less coffee during painting! Hope you will all enjoy this one, more African based paintings to come still.
Please read and comment some great articles in the article section, stay creative and above all, stay safe!

This is really exciting color. Nice work!
I am sorry as I uploaded my painting ,your comment disappeared.

Thanks for the cheers Jin!
Si, Voy es espanol, it means 'GO' but for me, it is actually short for VOYAGER, which is, or should I say was, my nickname because I travelled the world many many times as a hotel evaluator and airplane inspector.
Spanish is only my sixth language but I lived in Peru for a few months and went to dayschool there to learn Spanish. I don't speak Japanese though, although I have worked for a major Japanese company some 19 years ago.

Dear Voy I'm surprised you worked for a Japanese company.
Japanese is so different from Western languages that it's very difficult for you to learn, just as Western languages are very difficult for Japanese.
When I was a student most of English teachers cannot speak English,

True, continental wise there is a lot of difference! Most European language are related though and we Belgians have the strongest benefit of mastering at least four languages when schooldays are over. We are obligated somewhat in that since we are such a small country and thus need to talk/read/write all languages from the countries around us.

And yes, I worked as a major production planner for Pioneer electronics. I steered ous factory in Portugal from Belgium. VERY rewarding job yet MUCH overtime work at all times!!

So beautiful. Love the yellow glow. I am amazed at the sheer number of paintings you do and how nice they all are...

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Dear LJMP, the glow is made by the use of yellow acrylic as a premium. Most of my African paintings have this as a base since that shows real true bright colours on top and justifies the use of liquid clear, which doubles the effect. I love painting in this style!

I did paint a lot in winter time (63 in 61 days I think) yet slowed down in spring (garden work!). But with the lockdown …. my painting gets a small boost again, specially now that more creative work is allowed on the site. I am more a drawer then a painter you know!

THANKS SO MUCH for your cheers and adoration, always welcomed and appreciated to the full!!

Voy, this is stunning! I love the colors, the tree, the birds, all of it. I would love to see that scene in person.

Well …. I've been there … with my voyages. I've only visited 8 countries in Africa but very diverse and in about all corners of the continent. What attracts me most is the hard colouring, yet never dark and lways brightened.
And to mention the fauna and flora ….. that is WAAAAAYYYY out of this world!!!!
Thanks so much for appreciating my work, please have a look at more!!

Somehow I missed when you posted this one. Sky is great, blending there super nice, distant hills are nicely rolling, water and shore superb. I like you have all the planes here: distant, middle and close up with this wonderful tree and gentle highlight on the right.

I used your idea to prime with yellow acrylic paint. Only this will be not the african painting but just another landscape. I felt it was so much easier to paint and work with the color on yellow primed, rather than standard white or black. I plan to investigate this effect further. May be this is what I need to understand color better when I paint.

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Dear Sunnylady, thanks so much for your cheers and appreciation for my creations! You are a blessing to my work!

Concerning the yellow prime, I want you to have a look at two paintings that have almost the same colouring sky (same colours used) but have a different undertone, namely one (this one!!) is yellow acryl and liquid clear, the other (Dragonflies!!) white gesso canvas with liquid white.
Can you see the enormous difference in them? My earlier African paintings were all yellow acrylic based as well, please have a look.
For me, the effect reached is stunning and I am really crazy and wild about it!

Till next one!

This one is certainly brighter and requires sharper edges, I think, the ones you successfully achieved. Yesterday I was crying over that painting with yellow primer... I had beautiful sky there that was destroyed by my crooked hands when i painted pine tree and it grew enormously big by trying to fix it and at the end it was removed and half of the sky as well and half of the painting was repainted. I'll post it after finishing in a week or so. But it was first time ever I cried because I felt so bad about beautiful sky that is gone for good. I guess this stress from the lockdown played its role too.

Dear Tom, thanks so much for your cheers and kind words. It is true that my family, and also myself, believe this is about my best Afrcian painting ever. I intend to paint a second in the same manner, hopefully you will love that one as well.
It will contain the same idea for water, even a more violent sky and an animal or two!
Till next one!!

Voy Kay Conqueror of Challenges

Oh dear Sunnylady! Well, there is a reason why I never paint the sky too full with all of my Africans and it's simply because I make the sky so valuable, so outstanding, so …. important and almost overwhelming that I cannot get myself to dare and destory it with other items!
Maybe I am a softy maybe I am wise …. fact is, I adore most of the Africans for their sky, but also the trees and the animals (if any in it!).
Wishing you inspiration and courage on saving/rescueing that painting!!!!

Thanks for your support Voy!
